LX Semicon Mass Produces Automotive MCU LX61101 for Hyundai Motor, Kia- This marks the first achievement of LX Semicon’s new automotive MCU business as it expands into automotive semiconductors.- It is also the first domestically produced MCU for Hyundai Motor, Kia, based on a domestic mass production system spanning the entire SCM process.LX Semicon has begun mass production of LX61101, an automotive motor control microcontroller unit (MCU) for Hyundai Motor and Kia. This marks LX Semicon’s first achievement in automotive MCUs, a new business it has been developing, and the first domestically produced MCU to be used in Hyundai Motor and Kia vehicles.LX61101 is an MCU optimized for motor control in automotive body electronics. It is a core system semiconductor that enables real-time motor control by monitoring speed, position, rotational direction, and torque, and is characterized by an ultra-compact design, high performance, and high system efficiency. In particular, LX61101, based on a 40 MHz ARM Cortex-M3 core, enables stable and precise motor control. The chip is used in automotive window safety systems, which automatically reverse direction and reopen the window when an o-bject is detected during closing, as well as in systems that control automotive aerodynamics. Beginning with vehicles that Hyundai Motor and Kia plan to produce in the second half of this year, LX61101 will be applied to a broader range of vehicle models.LX61101 marks LX Semicon’s first achievement in the automotive MCU sector as part of its new business initiative. The company has expanded its business with a focus on display driver integrated circuits (DDIs). Since 2022, LX Semicon has nurtured automotive MCUs as one of its future growth pillars, driven by business portfolio expansion, the restructuring of the global automotive supply chain, and the shift toward electrification. It aims to expand its business areas by leveraging its competitive MCU technology for home appliances.LX61101 is attracting industry attention as the first domestically produced MCU to be used in Hyundai Motor and Kia vehicles. LX Semicon was selected as a new business partner for a motor-specialized MCU through Hyundai Motor and Kia’s supplier selection process in March 2023 and received a supplier award in April of the same year. After three years of development and quality testing, LX Semicon succeeded in mass-producing LX61101. During the development process, LX61101 satisfied AEC-Q100, the automotive semiconductor reliability standard, and ISO 26262, the functional safety standard.LX61101 was developed and mass-produced with the support of domestic companies across the full supply chain management (SCM) process, including semiconductor design, foundry manufacturing, and back-end processing. Industry observers view this as significant because it lays the foundation for domestic automotive MCU production and represents the first case in which Korea's leading fabless semiconductor company, LX Semicon, Hyundai Motor and Kia, and the domestic system semiconductor manufacturing and back-end processing ecosystem have been integrated into a single domestic supply chain. As of 2025, the size of the global automotive MCU market was estimated at approximately KRW 15.5 trillion. An LX Semicon official said, “As part of our long-term strategy to cultivate the automotive MCU sector, we will broaden our product portfolio from control MCUs to communication, drive, sensor, and power MCUs. LX Semicon will pursue new growth opportunities in automotive semiconductors and strengthen our collaboration with domestic automakers and the semiconductor industry.”
■ The Articles of Incorporation to be amended to enable investors to decide on their investment after confirming the dividend size.■ To ensure transparency in management, one additional outside director to be added to the board of directors, forming a majority thereof.LX Semicon will hold its Annual General Meeting of Shareholders at LX Semicon Daejeon Campus on the 21st of next month. At this meeting, LX Semicon will present a diverse range of agenda items to enhance its ESG management system, including expanding shareholder rights and ensuring transparency in management.First, LX Semicon will present an agenda item to amend the articles of incorporation to allow its board of directors to determine the dividend record date. In line with the global standard, this is to enable its investors to decide on investment after confirming the dividend size by setting different record dates for voting rights and dividends.LX Semicon anticipates that its investors will be able to make a decision on their investments once they have recognized the dividend amount in advance, and that the time interval between the confirmation of eligible shareholders for dividends and the actual payment date will be significantly diminished, thereby enhancing the predictability of shareholder returns.Furthermore, LX Semicon plans to appoint outside directors to form a majority of the board of directors at the shareholder’s meeting. Notwithstanding that it is not legally required for LX Semicon, a company with assets of less than KRW 2 trillion, to have its outside directors to constitute a majority of the board of directors under the Korean Commercial Code, LX Semicon will increase the proportion of outside directors to enhance the independence of the board of directors and ensure transparency in management.LX Semicon has appointed Professor Nam Soo Kim, from the Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering at Seoul National University, and Mr. Sang-Beom Han, a former representative director of LG Display, as its new outside directors. This appointment has been made in response to the expiration of tenure of the outside director, Mr. Young-Soo Shin and the appointment of one additional outside director. If the appointment of new outside directors is approved, LX Semicon’s board of directors will be expanded from a total of six directors, consisting of two inside directors, one non-executive director, and three outside directors to a total of seven directors, consisting of two inside directors, one non-executive director, and four outside directors. The outside director candidate, Prof. Nam Soo Kim is an expert in electrical and electronic engineering and has been involved in a various range of research activities in the fields of artificial intelligence and signal processing. The other candidate, Mr. Sang-Beom Han has nearly 40 years of experience in the semiconductor and display industry, possessing distinguished expertise and extensive experience in development, process, production, and equipment development in related fields. The shareholders meeting will also include approval of its financial statements and director remuneration limits.
